Wan Si Tang’s Expertise Materials chemist (experimental): proficiency with industry-standard advanced battery manufacturing processes of various chemistries; expertise in synthesis and characterization techniques for novel functional materials pertaining to practical energy storage and conversion applications in hydrogen storage, electrochemical cells, and solar energy I am currently the Director of Research (Novel Materials & New Energy Forms) at ESRI-ULRI, leading a team of researchers. As the Advanced Battery Manufacturing Team Leader at the BIC, I was leading a team of technicians, engineers, and scientists, covering both business development and battery science. The BIC has expertise with advanced battery manufacturing processes: mix, coat, calender, cell build (coin, pouch, cylindrical), electrochemical tests, and data analysis; and we also provide guidance toward commercializing clients’ technologies with varying chemistries. During my academic research, I investigated various hydride-based compounds as new applicable materials, including: 1. Hydrides as potential reversible hydrogen storage materials at device-relevant temperatures (M+[SiH3-], Li3BN2H8) 2. Electrochemical-related: both silicon-based anodic materials (LixSiy) for lithium-ion batteries and solid electrolytes (CxByHzn-) for lithium- and sodium-ion all-solid-state batteries 3. Topochemical polymerization of functionalized hydrocarbons, which afforded crystalline semi-conductors as solar cell photocatalysis 30 publications with 1900+ citations: Energy Environ. Sci. (impact factor IF = 32.5), Adv. Mat. (IF = 29.4), Adv. Energy Mat. (IF = 27.8), ACS Energy Lett. (IF = 22.0), and Energy Storage Mater., (IF = 20.4) 50+ international conferences: 2022 Fast Company Innovation Festival (invited panelist), 2017 Hydrogen-Metal Systems Gordon Research Conference (invited oral presentation) Vigorous technical training: project management, data analysis, research, record keeping, goal setting, literature searching, report and proposal writing, creative thinking, and organized experimentation; experimental competencies (ball-milling, glovebox) and characterization techniques (gas sorption, Raman, FTIR, UV-VIS, DSC/TGA, EIS, CV, PCI, SEM/EDS, optical microscopy, XRD (Rietveld refinements)) All-round highly skilled international scientist with 15+ years of research, discovery, design, and development experience alongside outstanding industry and academia partners and collaborations in Asia, Europe, and North America Thank you for your time and interest, and please contact me for more information!
